One of these days I'll make it to a comp or scale comp. Question, what do you all use to charge your batteries on the trail or at a competition?

Most of us carry multiple batteries. I myself carry around 5 per truck. But you could charge off of your vehicle battery.

I charge em all the night before. Also have a inverter in the car I can charge one on the way, but cant run the inverter without the motor running. It kills the car battery to fast if not running.

Yeh, I used to use my jeep to charge my F-1 batteries when I was racing in the Tamiya national races. I thought that rock crawling would be away from the car a bit though. Has anyone made a field charger using a motorcycle battery? If so, how many charges can you get out of it?

im sure it could be done but i think it would more practical to have several batteries then it would be to carry a motorcycle battery, power inverter, and charger along wth all your other comp gear

Batteries dont go as fast in rock crawling as they do in other forms of rc racing. I ran two rigs all day sunday on 4 1300mah batteries.

On both of my rigs the batteries are some-what permenently mounted. The comp rig with clod axles has the batteries fastened to the axles. The scale jeeps batteries are mounted under a black box to fill the engine compartment. On both rigs the battery connectors are accessible, so I thought a field charger would work for me. Any info anyone could provide on setting-up a field charger would be great.

don't know much about actually putting something like that together but you could probably fit it all in a small duffel bag to make it easyer to carry over the rocks

i wonldn't go the motorcycle route, i would use a power wheel battery...they are sealed and wont leak out battery acid when it falls over...you just need a charger with the car battery cables on it...you may get about four or more charges from it...that's my .02

Thanks for the output, I'm thinking of mounting the battery and charger in a tool box (plenty of extra room for parts and tools).

Like the others I have been able to do without recharging. I carry 2 - 1350 mah three cell lipo's and run dual motors and a Hitec 7955 servo. I will change out prior to the third course just to make sure I dont have issues. I think I can get about 20 mins run time out of each pack.

Yeh, my comp <-- (over there) does seem to run forever. My scale jeep cj-6 seems to have run time issues. I have two fans running, a radiator fan that moves air over the batteries, and an esc fan. With the fans and lights on, and one motor working hard, maybe thats a little much for a six cell battery. A redesign seems to be needed so I can switch the batteries out.

A lipo upgrade would go a long way to solving your runtime woes

That may even lower the center of gravity, maybe. Expensive though. I'm already thinking about the new Novak two motor ESC for <-- that. Dang! Too many new toys wanted.
